Building Skills and Strengthening Community

At The Circular Mindset CIC, we exist to support our community to thrive within a more sustainable future. And that doesn’t mean just rethinking what we create and waste – it means investing in people, sharing knowledge and building resilience for the long term.

That thinking sits behind everything we do, and it’s exactly what our Canva workshops at Berries Community Cafe are all about. Following the success of our first session, we’re heading back to Berries for our second free Canva workshop on 22nd April.

There’s often an assumption that design skills sit behind a paywall or belong to professionals. In reality, tools like Canva have opened the door for anyone to create clear, engaging content both online and in print. The challenge isn’t access to the platform – it’s confidence, time and knowing where to start.

This next session will follow the same approach as before: informal, hands-on, and shaped by the people in the room. Whether someone is new to Canva or already using it but looking to improve, the aim is to create a space where people can ask questions, work through real-life challenges, and leave feeling good! More than that, it’s about creating an environment where people feel supported to try, learn and build confidence.

What we’re seeing through these sessions is that they quickly become more than just workshops. They turn into spaces where people connect, share ideas, and start to see how their individual work contributes to a wider local economy. That peer-to-peer exchange is just as valuable as anything we deliver, because it strengthens the foundations of community-led change.

Work like this might not immediately be labelled as “sustainability,” but it’s a critical part of it. A resilient local economy depends on businesses and organisations being able to communicate effectively, attract customers and remain viable. When those skills are strengthened locally, value stays within the community. People support each other, opportunities grow, and reliance on external systems begins to reduce. That’s circularity in practice – not just in materials, but in knowledge and capability.

Hosting the workshop at Berries Community Cafe feels particularly fitting. As a space rooted in community values, it provides more than just a venue. It creates an environment where people feel comfortable to learn, ask questions and connect. That matters, because building confidence doesn’t happen in isolation – it happens in spaces where people feel supported.

If you’re a local business, community group, or individual who wants to build your skills and be part of that journey, we’d love you to join us on 22nd April.
