Cup Club Bude is officially launching at Crooklets Beach Cafe on Saturday 11th October 2025! 💚
This marks the start of something big for our town – Bude will become the first town in Cornwall to run a community returnable cup scheme, helping us tackle single-use waste right where it matters most: our beaches, coastline, and community spaces.
Why Crooklets Beach Cafe?
Crooklets is one of Bude’s busiest beach cafes, perfectly placed at the heart of our community. By joining us as the first pilot site, the team at Crooklets are doing more than serving coffee – they’re putting their money where their mouths are and standing up for change. Their leadership makes it possible to bring this project to life and show that reuse really works.
How it works
Cup Club Bude couldn’t be simpler:
Borrow – order your drink in a Cup Club cup for a £1 deposit
Enjoy – take it with you, on the beach or into town
Return – bring it back, get your £1 deposit back or swap it for another drink
That’s it. No waste, no guilt – just a small shift that makes a big difference.
Why it matters
Every year in the UK, 2.5 billion takeaway cups are used, and less than 1% are recycled. Too many end up in bins, on pavements, in wild spaces or washing up onto our beaches. As a coastal town, Bude has a front-row seat on the impacts of single-use pollution.
Cup Club Bude is about showing that even small coastal communities can lead the way with positive, practical change.
What’s next?
This is just the beginning. With your support, we plan to expand Cup Club Bude beyond Crooklets, bringing more cafes and businesses on board. Our dream is to see a town where single-use cups are a thing of the past. 🌍
